In 1919, Italian poet, aristocrat and military officer Gabriele D'Annunzio, outraged by the outcome of the Paris Peace Conference which proposed assigning the city of Fiume (today Rijeka) to Croatia, declared Italian administration over the Kvarner region. The sixteen-month occupation that followed is one of the most unusual attempts at governance in history. With the help of Rijeka's residents, the director attempts, more than a century later, to reclaim history and tell their version of events. Winner of the European Award for Best Documentary Film 2025 and more than 20 other international awards. Director: Igor Bezinović (Croatia/Slovenia/Italy, 2025, 112').
