The Science Film Festival 2026 takes place from 2 to 15 November in 10 Istrian towns. Theme of this year’s edition: artificial intelligence and a sustainable future. Organiser: Udruga tehničke kulture “Galileo Galilei”. Programme: 🎬 Nine and a Half – ChatGPT in the Classroom (10 min) Director: Antía Martínez Amor · Germany · 2024 AI text-generation tools can summarise books, interpret poetry and write an essay in a few seconds. But can they really replace students’ homework? In a classroom experiment, one student secretly uses an AI tool while the others work on their tasks on their own. The results raise questions about authorship, accuracy and academic honesty. The episode explores both the benefits and the risks of learning with the help of AI, encouraging students to think critically about when technology supports understanding and when it undermines it. 🎬 The Show with the Mouse – How Does an AI Write Texts? (6 min) Director: Ralph Caspers (scenarij); Ralph Caspers, Anna Gold, Alfred Rehbach (izrada) · Germany · 2025 Writing a text in a few seconds may look like magic, but artificial intelligence relies on a completely different process. By counting words, letters and their countless combinations, AI systems analyse huge amounts of data and recognise patterns in language. These patterns allow the system to put together new sentences that seem almost as if a human had written them. With a clear and playful explanation, the programme introduces young viewers to the basic principles of AI-generated text. festival-znanstvenog-filma.eu
