& SONS is an adaptation of David Gilbert's acclaimed 2013 novel, with a screenplay co-written by Sarah Polley, winner of the 2022 Academy Award for "Women Talking," and directed by veteran Argentine director Pablo Trapero. Bill Nighy stars in the lead role as an aging literary superstar preparing to announce something to his family far stranger than anything he has ever written in his celebrated novels. Twenty years have passed since Andrew Dyer last wrote a word — or left the house. In those two decades, he has fathered a child out of wedlock, lost his devoted and compassionate wife, and grown largely estranged from his other sons. Following the death of an old friend, Andrew's sense of his own mortality grows — worsened by his alcoholism — and he decides to gather all his descendants in one place for the first, and probably the last, time. His older sons Richard and Jamie reluctantly return home despite old grievances, believing their father wants to ease his conscience through reconciliation. Instead, Andrew reveals a secret about their half-brother Andy Jr. that surprisingly rewrites their family's history... The drama & SONS explores artistic ambition and mortality in a highly original and entertaining story that ultimately plays with universal themes: reunited family members confronting old accusations, misunderstandings and regrets.
