Mate Bekavac & FB BANDO with Mairéad Hickey

World-renowned clarinettist Mate Bekavac and his guest musicians visit the Libertas crossroads of cultures on 14 October. A versatile musician, Bekavac is a winner of the Prešeren Fund Award and of the Austrian Ministry of Science and Art’s Würdigungspreis, and a winner of some of the world’s most important music competitions. He has gathered like-minded, internationally recognised Slovenian musicians and founded a new ensemble – FB BANDO – which addresses current social issues such as the horrors of war and climate change through art. With bold, fresh interpretations it breaks the boundaries of the already heard a hundred times. As a concert master they are joined by Irish violinist Mairéad Hickey. Programme: P. I. Tchaikovsky: Lensky’s aria from Eugene Onegin (arr. Steven Loy); Tchaikovsky: Serenade for Strings in C major; Donato Lovreglio: Fantasia on Verdi’s Traviata, Op. 45, for clarinet and orchestra; Giacomo Puccini: Crisantemi; Medley of Italian songs (arr. Oskar Longyka); Pietro Mascagni: Intermezzo from Cavalleria rusticana. In cooperation with the Friends of Music Society. 📅 Wednesday, 14 October 2026, 7:00 PM 📍 Libertas, Large Hall, Koper
