Have you ever wondered how to stay calm when everything around you is changing? The Stoics offered an answer to that question more than two thousand years ago — an answer that is still surprisingly relevant today. Stoicism is not just ancient philosophy — it's a practical guide to life. In this seminar we'll talk about how philosophy can become a practical guide to a calmer, more mindful and more meaningful life. We'll explore how today's best-known Stoics, such as Zeno, Seneca, Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius, turned their ideas into a way of life. We'll get to know the three main areas of Stoic thought — physics, logic and ethics. We'll talk about the laws of the cosmos, the power of reason, control of emotions and the importance of virtue. Together we'll reflect on what it means to lead a "good life" and how to stay calm amid everyday challenges. In the final part of the seminar we'll focus on the contemporary application of Stoicism: personal responsibility, inner freedom and contribution to the community. With the help of exercises, we'll try to understand how philosophy can become a tool for everyday clarity and peace. Learn how to develop inner peace, resilience and clarity of mind, even when things don't go according to plan. Through examples from the lives and thoughts of the great Stoics, we'll discover how this ancient wisdom can help with contemporary challenges — from stress and overload to interpersonal relationships. Come and discover why Stoicism is, today perhaps more than ever, a philosophy for everyday life. Total seminar duration: 9 hours Wednesday, 9.9. (18:00–21:00) Wednesday, 16.9.
