54th Meeting of Choirs "Our Kanat is Beautiful": Let's sing in the heart of Poreč!

Dear choir lovers, conductors and singers, We invite you to enrich a tradition that has been around for more than half a century with your voices! On June 12 and 13, 2026, Poreč will once again become a musical stage where the Istrian scale, the Čakavian word and unity through song are celebrated. "Naš kanat je lip" is not just a meeting; it is a guardian of identity and a place where top-notch amateur performance and true passion for vocal art meet. We invite you to share the beauty of choral style with us and register your ensemble to participate in this year's, 54th edition of the meeting. In addition to enjoying the unique ambiance of Poreč, choirs have the opportunity to win valuable cash prizes for the best performances of compositions by Croatian composers based on the Istrian scale, with the prize for choirs being €350 and for vocal groups €150. Participants can also receive expert evaluation of their performance by an expert committee, with the option of choosing a review performance without evaluation, while the entire meeting provides an excellent platform for connecting and exchanging experiences with colleagues from all over Croatia and abroad. Propositions in brief Compositions based on the Istrian scale and the Chakavian dialect. One composition by a Croatian author can be free style. Program up to 8 minutes. International choirs bring the scent of their homeland, with one mandatory composition according to Kant's propositions. Since its founding in 1973, this event has been dedicated to preserving and promoting the Istrian musical scale, one of the most valuable and UNESCO-protected intangible treasures. Named after the anthological composition by Ivan Matetić Ronjgov, the Meeting brings together artists for whom the indigenous melody and the Čakavian word are the foundation of their creativity. "Kanat" itself in the Istrian dialect means song and singing, and through this meeting it becomes a symbol of identity and a creative bridge between tradition and modernity.
