Quality Communication in Interpersonal Relationships – introductory lecture

QUALITY COMMUNICATION IN INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS How do we speak, listen and understand each other? On Friday, 9 October 2026 at 5:00 PM, the University Library in Pula will host the introductory lecture “Quality Communication in Interpersonal Relationships”, led by Iva Jovanović and Biserka Šoštarek. Communication is the foundation of every interpersonal relationship, yet we often encounter misunderstandings, conflicts and situations in which what we intend to say is not necessarily what the other person hears. The lecture will introduce the basic principles of clear, constructive and supportive communication, with a focus on active listening, verbal and non-verbal communication, understanding others and becoming aware of our own communication patterns. Through everyday examples and an interactive discussion, participants will be encouraged to reflect on how they communicate, how they react when they disagree and how they express their own needs and feelings. The lecture also serves as an introduction to three workshops that will explore communication processes, the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviour, perception, psychological needs and personal values, self-awareness, self-confidence and self-esteem, as well as assertive and constructive communication. Iva Jovanović is the author of the book “Sunčana strana života” and a certified educator in emotional intelligence and quality communication.
