On Saturday, August 22nd at 8 p.m., the MMC Ulika in Bale will open the photo exhibition "Churches in Bale / le Chiese de Valle", dedicated to the sacral heritage of Bale and its surroundings. The authors of the exhibition are Siegfried Schwarz and Luka Jereb, and the joint project was born out of an interest in documenting Istrian churches and chapels. Siegfried Schwarz has been dedicated to photographic documentation of the sacral heritage of the Istrian peninsula for years, as part of a project that includes approximately a thousand churches and chapels. A meeting with Luka Jereb, a resident of Bale and the author of previous exhibitions dedicated to local heritage, led to the idea of a special project dedicated specifically to the churches of Bale. The project includes approximately 28 churches and chapels in Bale and its surroundings. The photographs thus represent various traces of sacral heritage, from churches in the settlement itself to smaller and more remote churches in the surrounding landscape. The special value of the project is that it documents the entirety of the Bale sacral heritage. Since it is possible to present only one photograph per church at the exhibition, a separate volume has been prepared for the exhibition, intended as a more detailed catalogue and guide through the sites covered. The texts about the churches were taken by the author from available sources of the City of Bale, while the texts about the saints were prepared by Luka Jereb. The exhibition "Churches in Bale / Chiese de Valle" opens on Saturday, August 22 at 8 pm at MMC Ulika. The exhibition will remain open to the public until September 18, 2026.
