A talk about Gustav Mahler's stays in Opatija between 1899 and 1905, a time of his greatest professional and private successes: the newly appointed director of the Vienna Philharmonic and his marriage to Alma Schindler. Opatija was then at its peak as a holiday destination for the Austro-Hungarian elite. Of his first stay Mahler wrote that his health was improving hour by hour.
