NEĆE BITI ZIME Goran Radošević

The exhibition Neće biti zime (There Will Be No Winter) by Goran Radošević presents a series of illustrations inspired by the carnival customs of the Sinj region and the tradition of the Didi, which is still preserved today by the inhabitants of the areas surrounding Sinj and Mount Kamešnica. Dressed in colourful ribbons and sheepskins, the Didi drive away winter and welcome spring through dancing, the ringing of bells and long processions. In the artist’s fictional, modernised interpretation, these harbingers of spring become bearers of new technologies and promises of prosperity. By connecting folkloric motifs with changes in the landscape and everyday life, Radošević opens up a space for reflection on the relationship between tradition, contemporaneity and our notions of progress.
